Okay, this is the last (well, probably last) blog on gardening until the Spring of 2020.  I’ll try to remember to pull out all my gardening thoughts and information-packed blogs.

A colorful variety of root vegetables.

But, keep these tips in mind.  Store some of the items for easy access when you start planting again, or, better yet, when you plant the seeds in your basement to get a head start!Keep your mind open to using ordinary items already in your household for interesting and useful projects! Use a muffin tin to evenly plant seeds on newly tilled soil. Use a milk jug as a portable “greenhouse” to cover tender plants if there is a frost warning.

Make creative use out of an old vinyl tablecloth, … as a cover in case of frost, as dirt catchers or to move soil from one place to another.

Use cardboard toilet paper rolls to create starter pots for vegetables with deep roots.  Cut the bottom enough to fold over and add soil and the seed!  A plus – the rolls are biodegradable!

Create a raised planting bed with a tire.  Or stack 2 or 3 tires to make a higher planting bed.  Line the inside with a plastic garbage bag and add soil and plants.

These are a few ideas to mull over.  I promise to come up with more “outside the box” suggestions in the early spring! Share your ideas here as well.
